“A Moment”

I don’t believe
in coincidences.

There was no
before
and definitely no
after.

All that
is clear
is this.

From across
the room
we locked eyes.

In two breaths
we were
together
toe to toe
and
eye
to eye.

On the tips
of my sneakers,
and you
leaning down
I whispered
the question
to you.

I swear
you were
dazed
and I knew
I was
mesmerized.

When you
answered
the world
stopped.

…

But then reality
struck
and the world
of onlookers
came back
into focus.

I darted away
and you
retreated too.

All the rest
was a blur
but I knew
you felt it
too.

It was a moment.

Just one moment.

If
there is
nothing else
at least
we have that for

some things
are just
meant
to
be.
