10 of My Favorite Feelings Tag

Life moves at the blink of an eye.

Now more than ever, with the world the way that it is right now, it’s important to slow down and remember what really matters in life. I’m sure all of us have had to take more than a few deep breaths these past few months, but in those breaths it’s the perfect moment to slow down and reflect on everything we do have that’s right in our worlds despite all the rest that isn’t.

I want to thank Xandria so much for creating this tag! If you haven’t checked out her blog yet, I highly recommend you do! She is such a ray of sunshine and positivity! 😀 Writing this post really relaxed me and brought a smile to my face as I thought of all my favorite feelings. It made me feel much more mindful about living my life in the moment, right here and now.

  1. Petrichor

I love going outside right after it rains. That first deep breath of fresh air is unlike any other smell in the world.

2. The Twilight Hours

I love that slip of time between dawn and sunrise or sunset and dusk. It’s such a strange, magical time of the day where it feels like anything can happen. It’s ephemeralness also makes it all the more special because you can only experience it for so long.

3. Surprise Laughter

Everyone knows this feeling. When all of a sudden something happens, and you totally caught off guard, just burst out laughing. Laughter is one of the most healing, stress relieving feelings in the world.

4. Mood Reading

A lot of us read but we don’t always read for enjoyment. Some things we are required to read but I love when I’m in a particular mood and I find the perfect book that embodies that particular mood. When the book I’m reading matches my feelings I feel like the world has come full circle.

5. The Ocean

I love looking at the ocean. I could go to the beach, stand and just look at the ocean for hours. It’s always changing, always rolling, always leaving but it also is never failing to come back.

6. Going to the Movies

I love going to the movies with my friends, but I haven’t been able to do this in forever because of current world problems. But, that feeling when the lights dim and the previews are over and the intro music starts playing…. I’m all there for that.

7. New York City

I love going to New York City. Whenever I’m there I’m surrounded by tall people, tall buildings and tall aspirations. It feels like an adventure every time I’m there, like wow this city can make all my dreams come true kinda feeling. I don’t think that’s universal for everyone who goes there but the City has always had a special place in my heart. You never know what’s going to happen, who you are going to see or what delicious food you are going to get to eat!!

8. High Intensity Exercise

This one is a double edged sword. To get to that adrenaline rush, I have to push myself to get into the zone of working out but once I’m there I feel so strong. Like I could fight a monster with my bare hands.

9. Wandering

I love to walk around. Especially places I’ve never been before. I want to see things I’ve never seen before and I want to people-watch and I want to see how this place in front of me is different from anything I’ve seen before. I’m always game for exploring and getting lost in the world around me.

10. Writing

This is my favorite feeling of all my favorite feelings. When everything melts away, your fingers flying, and it’s just you and the story playing in your mind. When you hit this level of emotion in writing it’s like the world you’ve created has come alive around you. Yes. This is my favorite favorite feeling. When I make imagination into reality.

Writing! I want to keep writing and writing and writing so that one day I can hopefully publish a book.

Liebster Award

Hello everyone!

I hope you’re all having an amazing day so far and I have some exciting news to share! I feel incredibly lucky to announce that I was nominated for the Liebster Award by my lovely friend Xandria ❤ We’ve only known each other a few weeks but listen to me when I tell you she is the personification of sunshine. If you haven’t checked out her blog yet, you musssst!!

Rules

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you, and provide a link to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions given to you.
  • Share 11 facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 5-11 other bloggers.
  • Ask your nominees 11 questions.
  • Notify your nominees once you have uploaded your post.

Xandria’s Questions for Me!

  1. Favorite song?

Honestly this changes day by day. Right now I keep finding myself listening to Sleepwalking by Lindsey Stirling! The intro of the music video is so thought provoking.

2. What is your life Motto?

I have Nike to thank for my internal mantra… JUST DO IT. I have always loved their slogan and whenever I get nervous or anxious right before I have to do something I definitely don’t want to do, I say it to myself. And then, I just do it. It feels so good afterwards!

3. Most Embarrassing Moment?

When I was around fifteen I was in a music recital. I was so nervous I misplayed this one really hard passage on my violin and I stopped playing. Mid performance.
This is a no-no. When you’re preforming, you never stop playing you go on like it never happened. But I stopped. Then I tried the passage again, and I failed again. So I stopped again. Like, omg me what the heck?
It was the third try that I finally got it and the audience of parents (feeling bad for me) clapped loudly when I finished the piece but I spent the rest of the day in tears. To this day I still cringe when I think about that moment.

4. Favorite Disney/Pixar Movie?

After the doozy that was the last question this one is eaaaaasy. Hands down, Lilo and Stitch.

5. A book you would recommend to anyone?

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It was the first book I read that really spoke to me, and I’ve never been the same since I read it at age thirteen.

6. Least favorite food?

Eggs. I hate eggs. So. Much.

7. What is one piece of advice you’d give your teenage self?

It gets better. It really does.

8. What do you miss the most about being in quarantine?

Going out for ice cream at our local spot! The weather’s been so nice lately and I’ve been craving their homemade s’mores ice cream!

9. What is your favorite scene in a movie?

I can recite by heart the scene in My Cousin Vinny when Vinny’s going to go deer hunting and Marisa Tomei, stunned that he’s going to shoot an innocent deer, starts “Imagine you’re a deer…” 😀

And I can do it with the accent.

10. If you had to live in a different country what country would it be?

I would love to live in Italy. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit twice and I just love the culture, landscape and the food so much!! I also have studied Italian and would love to be fluent.

11. What is your favorite thing about yourself? #SelfLove

I love my determination. If there is something I want I don’t wait for it to come to me, I go get it. Just do it.

11 Facts About Me

  1. I play the violin! I started when I was in the 4th grade and have played on and off throughout the years. Now, I actually have time to practice consecutively and I’m loving it!
  2. My favorite color has always been sky blue and will always be sky blue.
  3. I have an adorable dog named Ike who loves my mother and me but will viciously bark at anyone else who gets too close.
  4. I took gymnastics for a year when I was growing up and I adored flipping myself into the foam pit. I rocked that.
  5. When I was ten my dad gave me some blank books and I filled them up with my own Pokemon fan fiction complete with pictures! Oh yeah, I still have those messy drawings of Torchic, Eevee and the Dratini I got wayyy too early in the adventure.
  6. I drink peppermint tea everyday out of my Winnie-the-Pooh mug!
  7. Summer is my favorite season, but I appreciate them all! (But summer is still the best…)
  8. I took horseback riding lessons for ten years growing up, and someday I hope to have my own horse.
  9. There is never a time when I am not reading a book. I tend to read multiple at once in fact.
  10. I need ice cream in my life, at least weekly.
  11. I take a walk outside everyday with Ike ❤

My Nominations

You guys are all so wonderful and friendly! I really enjoy reading your posts through the week. Of course, if you don’t have time or don’t feel up to it there is no pressure to do this! I just wanted to highlight your great blogs!!

  1. If you had one day left to live, what is the one thing you know you would definitely do?
  2. If you could meet any one famous celebrity and have dinner with them who would you pick?
  3. What is one thing you want to change about yourself?
  4. What is one thing you absolutely love about yourself?
  5. What is one book that changed your life?
  6. Favorite movie of all time?
  7. If you could have any animal (real or fantasy) as a pet what would you pick?

Till next time,

The Quarantine Write Tag!

Quarantine sucks. It does. Pandemics suck. They do. On the bright side of our new normal though is the opportunity and space to pursue the things that we have always wanted to do! For example, enjoy the quality time we always wanted to spend with our loved ones, find a new hobby or have the chance to write. that. first. draft.

(Can you tell I’m beating myself up over this?)

Being both a perfectionist and a procrastinator is the curse life has laid on me… but I’m trying to break the spell! Thank you so much to Kat @ Life and Other Disasters for creating this tag and thank you so much to the lovely Sophie @ Sophie’s Corner for tagging me to participate! They both have amazing blogs and if you haven’t yet you should really check them out!!

I’m a little behind on doing this tag (blame the procrastination and perfectionist anxiety, forgive me!) but here we go!

Rules

  • Thank the person who tagged you but also link back to the original post! ( I want to see all your lovely answers, people!)
  • Provide a short description of your WIP/story!

What is your WIP/story about?

That’s a loaded question, haha. Right now a lot of things are still tentative and (disclaimer, lol) subject to change. Although, I can share what I want this story to be! In my head I see a treasure hunt of epic proportions starring a lot of messy characters with a lot of messy feelings. Therefore it’s a recipe made of legends of old, misplaced magic and the characters’ complicated relationships with each other. There are going to be good villains, there are going to be bad heroes and there are going to be plenty of others in between. Lots of violence, probably, and I’m aiming for a fantasy/new adult vibe. Oh, and don’t forget to sprinkle a lot of crying on top (spoiler alert -most of it will be mine but hopefully some part will touch the future readers as well…) I don’t even have a title yet but thus far I’ve been referring to the project as The Lowell Saga.

Which character is most likely to help out their elderly and vulnerable neighbors during the crisis? OR which of your characters has an essential job (or would have if they didn’t live in a fantasy/dystopian/sci-fi/whatever different world) and brave the outside on the daily?

Esmerelda would definitely be the one most likely to help out the elderly during the pandemic. She would be the type to bring them flowers for their table, and sit and chat (while remaining six feet apart) outside their window if they needed company.

Who is your go to character for TV and movie recommendations? (As they most likely spend all their time binge-watching shows already!)

This fits Catrina 100%. I feel like she would be a TV addict and be the go to for all the best shows to watch when one suddenly has the need to lock themselves up inside the house 24/7.

Tell us about the first character that would go slightly mad staying inside for too long?

Probably Lowell. Her character was the inspiration that started The Lowell Saga 4 years ago, and that’s why I have dubbed the temporary title of this WIP after her. She is a very adventurous person and needs to be outside a little bit every day.

(Omg there is a Spongebob gif for everything!)

How does your most extravert and your most introvert character handle the crisis?

Catrina would probably take the crisis in stride, but as I mentioned earlier Lowell would be going mental knowing she couldn’t go out places.

Which of your characters is a prepper and would have been ready if this had been a zombie apocalypse?

Quentin! He always likes to be prepared.

(How long can I go on with this…hmm…)

Who got panicked and bought everything in bulks (despite reassurances that markets would not run out)?

Also Quentin! He likes to be very prepared.

If there is a character who might be hard to convince that the virus and its dangers are real, who would it be? Why?

Shizuka might be the one most hard to convince. She is kind of stubborn.

(Going strong with these….)

Who would organize all the zoom-group chats to make sure their friends and family stayed connected?

Lowell is the most socially savvy of all the characters I got cooking right now, so it would probably be her.

(STAYED STRONG TILL THE END WITH MY OLD FRIEND BOB, SPONGE [the first gif of Merida doesn’t count! I found her first and she really captured my feelings so she stays!])

BONUS: Make an aesthetic of your main character bundling up at home!

This saga has a few main characters (as I picture it in my head right now at least…) so it may look something like this:

(Photos from left to right by Rendiansyah NugrohoMatt Ragland, Erik Mclean, and Annie Spratt on Unsplash)

I tag anyone who wants to do this! It’s a great exercise for feeling out your characters in your own WIP while also being very relevant to the world right now, lol.

What are some of the WIP you guys are working on?

Till next time,

The Sunshine Blogger Award

So, we can all agree that it feels like the world is ending. What we have to remember though is that we. will. get. through. this. As long as we all do our part. I know it’s also tough to keep your spirits up, anxiety is making a mess of us all, but that is all the more reason why we need to keep up our positivity. Whatever you need to do to relax (as long as it’s not at the expense of others) I’m giving you all the excuses to go do it, no judgement.

In the meantime, I am going to be over here doing what makes me happy! Nothing is happier to me right now than sunshine. Thanks so much to Sophie @ Sophie’s Corner for this nomination! She is a fantastic blogger, writer and human being overall so I really recommend you check out her blog. Now without further ado…

The Rules

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  3. Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post/or on your blog.

If the situation becomes dire and you have to trade away your precious books in exchange for food, and you can only choose 5 books from your TBR to keep, which books would you choose?

Difficult one right off the bat! Probably King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo since I still have my Crooked Kingdom hangover from having finished it in March, then Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson because I still can’t believe I haven’t read that yet, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid for obvious reasons, Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater for more obvious reasons and lastly House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City) by Sarah J. Maas.

If you can only choose 5 books to re-read, which books would you choose?

This one is much easier to answer, lol. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare, Fire and Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones and The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater.

What food can you never get tired of eating?

Easy. Peanut butter, hands down. Also bananas. Preferably, the two together.

What is your favorite thing to do in the comfort of your home, other than reading or blogging?

I love to play video games and, not going to lie, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is my life right now.

What are your thoughts about exercising inside the house?

As being a serial pacer, I’m all for it. When given the opportunity to go outside though ALWAYS go outside. Fresh air does wonders.

If you wake up tomorrow and realize that your life up until now has been a dream, and that you in fact have been living in a different country or fictional world your entire life, what country/fictional world do you want to wake up in?

Hmm… this one is hard. There are so many to choose from! Probably, Shadowhunters. Secretly, I have always wanted to kick demon ass for a living.

Which pet (real or fictional) would you choose to be your self-isolation companion?

I have always wanted a dragon. So I pick that. Can you imagine just casually owning a dragon? Come on, right or wrong, that would be the coolest thing ever?

Takeout or home cooking?

Home cooking all the way. I rarely eat takeout since I, unfortunately, get indigestion super easily.

Favorite social media platform?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm….. I don’t know. Pinterest probably.

TV shows or movies?

TV shows. I only watch movies every once in a while, whereas I watch way too much TV. Like have y’all seen the Tiger King series on Netflix? Omg, crazy stuff.

Do you binge-read books or read a bit at a time?

I read a bit at a time, and I’m such a strong mood reader. I love to savor books because you only ever get to read them for the first time once.

My Questions

  1. If you had to pick one book to re-read for the rest of your life what would it be?
  2. If you could meet any three authors and sit down to dinner with them who would you pick?
  3. Are you pro or against writing in the margins of your books?
  4. If you had to choose between eating vegetables for the rest of your life or fruits for the rest of your life what would you pick?
  5. If the world was in danger and you were picked as one of the chosen ones destined to save it how would you feel?
  6. If you could read any three fictional characters to life who would you pick?
  7. If you had to would you rather be a pirate or a ninja?
  8. If you could only drink one thing for the rest of your life, what would you pick?
  9. If you could have any magic power what would it be?
  10. If you could only live in one season for the rest of your life which would you pick?
  11. If you had the power to save any one fictional character from dying who would you pick and why? Would it change the course of the story they are in?

Now, I tag each and every one of you who read this to the end!

How would you guys answer some of these questions?

Sending good and healthy vibes to each and every one of you! Stay safe and if you can stay home. Please.

Till next time,

I Should Have Read That Book Tag

Good golly gosh… where to begin? Reading is one of the loves of my life, so much so that I take my time to savor the storytelling of each book that I read. It’s because of this habit though that it does take me a bit of time to get through one book, and with a never ending TBR pile well… you can imagine how long my list is of books I still have to read! (AND I AM DETERMINED TO GET TO EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.)

Thanks to the lovely Sophie @ Sophie’s Corner for thinking of me for this tag! Now without further ado lets jump in! 😀

The Rules:

  • Thank the person who tagged you and link back to their post.
  • Link to the creator’s blog in your post
  • Answer the questions below
  • Tag 10 others to take part in the tag
  • Enjoy the tag!

A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read

I own this book. It’s on the bookshelf right in front of my bed so I see it every morning when I wake up. I have also heard so many good things about this series and when I went to Book Con last year I even won an adorable scythe pin. Those are the top reasons, among many others, of why I got to get my butt in gear and finally read this one!

A book that has been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t read it

I know. The Night Circus is one of my favorite books of all time, so I don’t know why it’s taking me so long to get to The Starless Sea. Probably, it’s because I want to wait till I have more time to truly enjoy this book to the fullest. You can only read a book for the first time once, right?

A book in a series you’ve started, but haven’t gotten around to finishing

I JUST FINISHED MY SECOND REREAD OF THIS. I AM GOING TO FINISH THE DUOLOGY. FINALLY. MY BELOVED CROOKED KINGDOM THE TIME HAS FINALLY COME!

A classic you have always liked the sound of, but have never actually read

This is a book I’ve been meaning to read for years. I think if I remember right I even picked it up and started to read it a few years ago but for some reason or another put it back on the shelf because the timing wasn’t right. Hopefully this year it will be!

A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read

I’m embarrassing myself so bad with this tag. I know. I haven’t read this one either yet. I WANT TO! It’s another that has been staring me down from my bookshelf. I have heard numerous beautiful, heartbreaking things about this book and it is about time I read it!

A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but just haven’t picked up yet

I started reading this series years and years ago when I was like twelve. My twelve year old self just got distracted midway through and hasn’t been back since. I’m determined to read this series all the way eventually! {Then tackle Lord of the Rings, but that’s another story 😉 }

A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet

I’ve heard this one is a combo of The Infernal Devices and Howl’s Moving Castle which are tops in my Favorite Books of All Time list. I see you Sorcery of Thorns and I AM COMING FOR YOU. (EVENTUALLY.)

Have any of you read the books I mentioned above? Probably, right? Haha! What books are highlights on your TBR piles?

Till next time,

The NaNoWriMo 20 Questions Tag!

NaNoWriMo is coming. (Oh, and winter too *wink, wink*)

It gives me legitimate chills (in anticipation… and in excitement!) to just even think about it. This will be my third year participating and thus far I have never succeeded in writing 50,000 words. Here’s to hoping this year will be different. For instance, I might be changing that word count to a more achievable number for me lol. In the long year since last year’s NaNo I have started to gain more understanding of myself as a writer and my process!

Thank you to the lovely Sophie @ Sophie’s Corner for creating this tag and tagging me to participate in it! I’m definitely going to have fun with this so, without further ado shall we begin? ;D

Rules:

  1. Thank the awesome blogger who tagged you!
  2. Link back to the creator of this tag, Sophie @ Sophie’s Corner. (I want to hear about your NaNo novels!!)
  3. Feel free to use the NaNoWriMo 20 Questions Tag graphics!
  4. Answer the questions.
  5. Tag some friends who are also doing NaNo this year.
  6. And have fun!!!

Tell me about your NaNoWriMo project this year! Give me a blurb!

(I’m still in the process of mapping out the plot but here is a general idea about the story!)
Alice doesn’t understand how summer came to end so fast and school is right around the corner again. On her one and only vacation to the Boardwalk at the end of August, oblivious and distracted in her mind, she gets lost and ends up trapped in a vicious game where the only way out is to win. The Boardwalk is not all as it had first seemed when Alice finds herself ducking through seedy alleys, facing ghost stories, and taking on the thirteen challenges she needs to win. It is not going to be easy, especially, when their only purpose is to stop her and keep her soul trapped in the game with them forever…

What’s the genre?

YA, most assuredly, with a touches of fantasy. Also, like a lot of magical realism thrown in there.

Describe your MC in three words.

Imaginative, self deprecating and competitive AF.

Without spoilers, describe your villain in three words.

Reckless, lost and selfless.

What is your goal? (the traditional 50K? 20K? 5K? or……. 100K?)

In the two years past I participated I’ve never made it to 50K, despite my efforts, SO this year I’m going for hopefully a more realistic goal of 25K.

Is this your first draft? Second? Third?

I’ve written this story three times before and didn’t like how it turned out. This time after reworking it (again) this October (fourth time is the charm!) I like the direction it’s going in and hopefully I will bang that first draft out! I’m not giving up on the idea, I just needed the time to rework it into the best it can be and I’m getting there. Those other attempts weren’t a waste either because I found out what didn’t work, with some gems of really decent writing along the way that might make it into this draft.

Are you starting a new project (or draft), or continuing an existing one?

I guess you could say sort of continuing an existing one.

What is your favourite time to write in the day?

Ideally, the morning. Although, my records show I do a lot of night writing lol. This year I’m going to try to wake up earlier to write before work.

Where are you going to write?

More than likely at home. I might be tempted though to try getting out and working at either the library or my local coffee shop just to mix it up!

Computer or paper?

All my notes will be on paper, but I’m going to type the story on the computer.

NaNoWriMo is a huge commitment!! How are you going to make time to write?

I AM GOING TO WAKE UP EARLY.
(As if making that all in caps will give me the strength to get up earlier lol. I promise to try really hard universe so be kind to me.)

Are you going to participate in local or online NaNoWriMo events? (e.g. kick-off parties in your city, write-ins, virtual writing sprints…)

At this point, I don’t think I’m going to but never say never!

Do you write from beginning to end or skip around?

My head ideally likes to work from beginning to end, especially when I’m writing a first draft, that way it clearly follows how to get from Point A to Point B. That being said, as of late, I’ve been skipping around so who knows how this November is going to go? 😀

Planner or pantser? (or plantser?)

Plantser, 100%. A healthy dose of outlining so I have an idea of the beginning, middle and end. Then, an unhealthy dose of let’s just get writing and see what the heck happens.

What will be your go-to NaNoWriMo snack?

Chocolate in any way, shape or form. I’m looking at you mini Halloween candy variety bag.

Choice of caffeine? (or no caffeine?)

CAFFEINE, YES. COFFEE AND TEA AND ANYTHING IN BETWEEN.

Any rewards for milestone achievements? For finishing NaNoWriMo?

Infinite pride in myself till the year’s over for working hard and doing my best. Then, sleep.

Share a tip for other NaNo-ers!

You have to love the story you’re writing. Otherwise what’s the point? If you don’t love it, then probably no one else will either.
That’s why this story has taken me so long to get right. I wasn’t loving what I was writing but now I’m working it out so I do and want to get up early every day to write!

How are you feeling about NaNoWriMo? (Excited?! Nervous!? Terrified?!)

Terrified, 100%. (But doing it anyway!) Plus another 150% SUPER excited!! One step closer to getting my story out there in the world! 😀

Share an aesthetic for your NaNoWriMo novel!

I tag anyone and everyone else who is doing NaNoWriMo and wants to participate in the tag!

Let’s get going writers! NaNoWriMo is nearly here! So have Needle at the ready (or like a pen or pencil or laptop… or sword because you never know) and let’s ACE this November. If you are participating I’d love to hear about the stories you’ll be writing in the comments below!!

Till next time,

NetGalley Book Tag! // (Or Rather a Modified Tag Because I Don’t Actually Have a NetGalley Account Lol)

August made me a little lazy, so I’m a little late doing this tag but better late than never! The lovely Sophie @ Sophie’s Corner tagged me for this one (thanks Sophie!), and even though I don’t have a NetGalley account I’m not going to miss the opportunity to have fun with this so I’ll be taking a little liberty with the questions here if you’ll bare with me ;).

The Rules:

  • Link back to the tag’s creator (Kourtni Reads)
  • Thank and link back to the person who tagged you
  • Answer the questions the best you can. If you don’t use NetGalley, you can substitute other sites or places where you get books!
  • Tag a few people to do this too

Auto-Approved: Who’s one author whose books you automatically want to read, regardless of what they’re about?

I’m pretty sure I have mentioned my love of Leigh Bardugo multiple times already, so what is once more? BRING ON NINTH HOUSE.

Request: What makes you want to request a book that you see on NetGalley?

In general what makes me pick up a book and chose to read it? Definitely the premise must sound intriguing to me. Something fresh, something new, something that might have to do with adventure, romance, fantasy or YA if we’re getting into specifics of what I lean towards. But… I’m pretty open to reading anything and everything. There is something to learn in every book.

Feedback Ratio: Do you review every book you read? If not, how do you decide what books to review?

I definitely don’t review every book I read. Honestly, it has to be a book that I would shout from the high heavens YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK to all the people down below. The only books that would fall into that category are stories I know I could read over and over. And over. And then over again. Those special books, ya know? The ones that know the map of your heart and soul. (*cough, cough*) The Book Thief (*cough, cough*)

Badges: If you could create your own badge to display on your blog, what would it be for?

HA HA! Let’s see… Notoriously Slow Reader or Reader of Too Many Books At Once or At Least She Tries Very Hard.

Wish For It: What’s one book that you are absolutely dying to read?

Besides Ninth House, hands down Erin Morgenstern’s A Starless Sea. Take me away…..

Who is your favorite author that (beyond all doubt) you will read every book they write? What are some books you’re looking forward to reading?

Lots of love,

Top Ten Tuesday: Auto-Buy Authors // The Ones That Keep My Boat Afloat

I have never participated in a Top Ten Tuesday before but then I figured… why not? It looks like a lot of fun and I like to have fun. 🙂 Top Ten Tuesday is a book blog meme created by The Broke and The Bookish but now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This one seems like a good one to start with because I know my go to authors when the world is drowning and I need my boat to ride through those waves. In other words (metaphors aside), these are the authors whose books I basically pre-order without even reading the description.

1. Erin Morgenstern

The Night Circus is one of my favorite books of all time. It’s so beautifully written and never fails to totally take me away from reality. That’s why I can’t wait for Erin Morgenstern’s next book, The Starless Sea. I can’t wait to be taken away somewhere beautiful and beyond my wildest dreams….

2. Leigh Bardugo

Leigh is a queen. Enough said. She had me sold from the beginning and never disappoints. Nikolai, Nikolai, oh Nikolai…..

3. Cassandra Clare

I enjoyed the Mortal Instruments but the Infernal Devices is really what sold me. I have read the series too many times to count that my copies are scribbled all over and very well read, so much so that the pages will open if they are just touched. Cassie you got me.

4. Maggie Stiefvater

Never has an author really hit a chord with me as much as Maggie. I don’t know what it is but I have a feeling our boats are out on the same sea. I love the way she tells a story and how she phrases things and introduces a character to the reader. Excelsior.

5. Sarah J. Maas

Sarah J. Maas I. Can’t. Even. Really. I’ve read every book in the ACOTAR series and I already have purchased basically every book in the Throne of Glass series that is just sitting on my shelf waiting to be read. Goodness gracious.

6. Diana Wynne Jones

My comfort food. Between Howl’s Moving Castle and Fire and Hemlock my top faves of Diana’s, she just makes me want to read every single book she ever written. And there is a lot of them. Whenever a storm is a brewing on the horizon I go to her and she always makes me feel better.

7. Markus Zusak

The Book Thief was my first absolute beyond all doubt favorite book of all time. I Am the Messenger is also another fantastic book by Zusak which of course I devoured all those years ago after I read The Book Thief, for like, four times in a row.

8. Neil Gaimon

Ahhhh yes. I love Coraline. I know it’s a little creepy, and disconcerting but…. gahhhh I can’t explain it. Neil Gaimon has a gift and American Gods is just waiting on my TBR pile. The Ocean at the End of the Lane was also another great read that I enjoyed by him.

9. Madeline Miller

Yes. Yes. Yes. Beautiful. Fantastic. Wonderful. Heartbreaking. Take my money Madeline Miller.

10. Suzanne Collins

I remember in high school devouring this series. It was all everyone was talking about and there’s a reason why. I’m so ready for the prequel next year. My boat shall keep floating till then.

Who are some of the authors that float your boat? I’d love to chat in the comments below!

The Summer Bucket List Book Tag // All the Summer Vibes

Yay!! It’s my first tag ever since I started my website so I’m super excited! Thank you to Sophie @ Sophie’s Corner for thinking of me for this ❤ and also to the original creator Tiffany @ Read By Tiffany for the great idea and tag graphics! Here we go…

First of all, SUMMER IS HERE! It’s my favorite season for so many reasons, almost too many to name. Here’s to endless daylight, ocean waves and ice cream to our heart’s content during these hot days. Not to mention all the fireworks and BBQ’s and just all around good vibes!

The Rules

  • Link back to the original creator in your post
  • Feel free to use any of the tag graphics in your post, or create your own!
  • Tag 5 other people at the end of your post, and let them know you’ve tagged them.

Whenever summer comes rolling in, know the ocean isn’t too far away. Lady Midnight takes place in California where sun, sand and surfers are everywhere you turn. Even though I wasn’t as fond of the rest of the Dark Artifices trilogy, Lady Midnight still holds a special place in my heart. The old school Hollywood, mystery and revenge vibes surf out a great story. Emma, the main character is badass, and I wish I had a best friend just like Julian. It demands to be read with the water in sight.

I will read anything by Sarah J Maas, and ACOMAF is tops when it comes to romance. The way Feyre and Rhys’s relationship changes throughout the whole story can’t help but keep you entranced. There are definite fireworks all over this book.

I took this one a little metaphorically, and picked what I am currently reading now. Little Women isn’t necessarily about a physical road trip but it’s a journey through life and how Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy grow, change and become who they are meant to be. It’s a fantastic read, and I started it because I wanted to read it before the new movie came out. I understand now why it’s a classic!

This book undid me. I loved Madeline Miller’s spin on the Iliad. The retelling was beautiful, and harrowing and there were just too many feelings associated with this book that I can’t even. If you haven’t read it yet, PLEASE PICK IT UP.

This book. This book. This book! So many twists, so many turns and I haven’t even finished it yet but as soon as I finish this post I will be running right back to it. AHHHHH! The world building is fantastic and believable, and the story and characters keep you guessing.

This one is super cute. It takes place in Italy and there’s gelato which is the Italian version of ICE CREAM <3. Not only is the romance spot on and believable but the reader also gets to experience Tuscany through the main character Lina’s eyes as well. It will make you want to just run and jump on the next plane for the perfect summer vacay.

This book will forever have a special place in my heart. I’ve read it a few times which is a big deal for me because most books I only read once. I don’t know what it is exactly but the whole vibe of the story with the race, the water horses, the threat of danger in such a believable realistic way… and not to mention the November cakes is special. Rereading it recently this past autumn I discovered some things I had missed before. Thisby was a breath of fresh air in my lungs.

This book is not for everyone. It faces the very heavy topic of suicide. Murakami’s writing has a very mellow way of going about it. The story really makes you understand what Toru is experiencing around him after losing one of his closest friends and what happens after. It is a coming of age story with Japan as its backdrop.

I have yet to read this one yet but it’s on my TBR pile and I am very excited!! Food, food, food!! I have some dietary restrictions so I’m looking forward to getting my fill of delicious food through this book!

What book is more inspiring for a writer? I’m savoring this book slowly and taking in all of the experiences that Stephan King shares and knows that each and every writer has had or will have. Rejection, acceptance, thinking is this all going to work out?, safety nets, no safety nets, bad times, good times, and eventually success. 🙂 Which to say, it’s very relatable.
